Global Dhikr & Meditation: Reconnecting with Divine Mercy

In the midst of the ongoing global uncertainty, the spiritual practice of dhikr (remembrance of God) stands as an essential tool for those seeking peace, stability, and divine mercy in their lives. As believers, it is crucial to reconnect with Allah Almighty, especially during times of crisis. The recent Global Dhikr and Meditation session underscored this vital connection and reminded us that our stability and security come only from our Creator.

Reconnecting with Divine Mercy

The state of the world today—marked by instability, fear, and increasing uncertainty—calls us to turn back to the Source of all peace and security. The Quran reminds us that all peace, safety, health, and stability are manifestations of Allah’s divine presence. As Allah says in the Quran:

Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.

Surah ar-Ra’d (Holy Qur’an, 13:28)

This peace and tranquility do not arise from worldly sources but from a connection with our Lord. The more deeply we are connected to Allah Almighty, the more we experience His attributes of mercy, security, and abundance in our lives. It is through this connection that divine mercy flows into the world.

The Prophets as Bridges to the Divine

The role of the prophets throughout history has been to act as bridges between creation and the Creator. Their mission was to guide humanity back to Allah when the connection to the Divine had been lost or weakened. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Seal of the Prophets, is described in the Quran as a “mercy to all the worlds” (Qur’an, 21:107). This title reflects the profound connection between the Prophet ﷺ and Allah Almighty, through which divine mercy flows to all of creation.

The prophets reflect the divine attributes, much like the moon reflects the light of the sun. We cannot gaze directly at the sun without being blinded, just as the majesty of Allah’s direct light is overwhelming for creation. Instead, we look to the prophets, who reflect that light in a way that is accessible to us, guiding us out of darkness and back to the light of faith.

The Power of Dhikr

The essence of maintaining this connection to the Divine lies in the sacred practice of dhikr. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the importance of this practice when a man came to him and asked for a single act of worship that he could hold on to if he could not keep up with all the requirements of Islam. The Prophet ﷺ advised him:

“Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah.”

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Tirmidhi)

Dhikr is a sacred practice that sustains our connection to Allah Almighty, our Lord and Creator. It is a practice that balances both the outer (Shariah) and the inner (Tariqa) aspects of Islam, much like the two wings of a bird. Without both wings, a bird cannot fly, just as we cannot reach spiritual excellence without maintaining both the outer obligations and the inner spiritual practices.

In dhikr, we find divine mercy, protection, strength, and healing. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described the circles of dhikr as gardens of paradise, where divine mercy descends upon the participants. As we gather in remembrance, we create these gardens on earth, where Allah Almighty’s Divine Presence is near, and through this connection, mercy flows into our lives and into the world.

The Importance of Faith

The efficacy of dhikr and our connection to Allah is directly proportional to the strength of our faith. The more energy, belief, and passion we bring to our dhikr, the more divine mercy we receive. It is essential that we approach this practice with unwavering faith and commitment. As Allah Almighty says in the Quran:

Call upon Me, I will respond to you.

Surah Ghafir (Holy Qu’ran, 40:60)

This promise from Allah Almighty reminds us that our faith should be strong and confident. We must call upon Him with conviction, for He is near, and His response is certain. The Prophet ﷺ further assures us that in remembering Allah, we align ourselves with divine support, making the impossible possible.

The Role of the Believers in a Time of Darkness

We live in a time that mirrors the age of Jahiliyyah (ignorance) before the advent of Islam—a world shrouded in darkness and materialism. Just as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emerged as a beacon of light to guide humanity back to the truth, we too are called to be warriors of light in this new age of darkness. This requires us to let go of our attachments to the material world (dunya) and realign ourselves with the divine will.

The end of this world, as foretold by the Prophet ﷺ, will usher in a new reality with the coming of Sayyidina Mahdi (as) and the return of Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him). This will be a time of great awakening, where the power of faith will be fully unveiled. We should not fear this end, but rather pray for it, for it marks the beginning of a heavenly reality where divine justice and peace will prevail.

Returning to the Essence of Faith

The path forward for the Muslim Ummah lies in reconnecting with the essence of our faith. This begins with dhikr, the remembrance of Allah Most High, which brings divine mercy and protection into our lives and the world. We must continue to gather in dhikr, individually and collectively, to strengthen our connection to Allah and to anchor our hearts in His Divine Presence. As we do so, we become conduits for His light and mercy, which the world so desperately needs in these dark times.

May Allah Almighty strengthen our faith, grant us unwavering conviction, and allow us to be among those who bring light to the world.

Allahumma ameen.

To your divine and eternal success.
