After first seeking to explain what is a shaykh and the fundamental role of a shaykh in the religion, we now come to the question of how to find a shaykh. In this brief video, I share my own personal story of how I found my guide and mentor upon the path, and share suggestions on how you can do the same.
Quite simply, the first step is to intend to seek a qualified, reliable and trustworthy master of the way. Supplicate to Allah Almighty and have faith that you will be led and guided to what is best, for it is His will to guide to His light they who seek, and thus to the doorways and bridges to His Divine Presence, for such is the very reason for our existence.
Secondly, take action and seek. This may require movement and travel for the sake of knowledge and guidance, and doing so is part of the spiritual path. Throughout history, the pious and sincere have traveled far and wide seeking mentors and guides. Pay attention to where you are led, and to what you are attracted.
Note also that your primary contact and connection to a living shaykh and master of the way may be one of his deputies or representatives, for it may be difficult to reach directly often to a true master who is otherwise more remote or inaccessible.
May Allah Almighty guide all who seek, and keep us upon that path of excellence, knowledge, wisdom, light, purity, sincerity and truth.
To your divine and eternal success.
