The early believers and our pious predecessors understood the profound impact of one’s environment on the health, happiness, harmony and spiritual awakening of human potential that is supported and experienced.
Knowing also that the goal and purpose of faith and religion was with paramount importance the establishing of a society and culture that is conducive to the true success of both the individual and the community, they classified the world and its societies and cultures into two distinct categories.
1) Dar al-Islam
Dar al-Islam, which literally means the “Domain of Islam,” or the domain of surrender and submission to the will of the Divine, was used to denote lands in which was established and supported faith and faith-based lives, and wherein justice, peace and harmony were sought and aspired to.
Dar al-Islam was used to describe societies and environments that were based in divine guidance, light, wisdom and goodness, and that thus supported the health, happiness and harmony of human beings.
2) Dar al-Harb
Dar al-Harb, literally meaning the “Domain of War,” was used to describe societies and cultures in which there was opposition to living lives based in faith, and which actively opposed faith-based divine guidance and revelation.
Dar al-Harb was used to describe worlds and environments mired in ignorance, unconsciousness, injustice, tyranny, oppression and the abuse of human beings, and that led to ever increasing misery, suffering and sorrow for humanity.
Dar al-Harb Versus Dar al-Islam
Each of these two worlds either support or oppose the health, happiness, harmony and success of human beings. Now, in the 21st Century, with the technology and tools that are available, we must take great wisdom and intelligence in consciously tuning to and choosing to be connected to Dar al-Islam, which is the world of faith, light, beauty, excellence, purity and balance.
As human beings seeking harmony, peace and the pleasure of God, we can through our conscious consumption and intentional use of modern media choose to increasingly live in and exist in a world of faith and light rather than the ever increasing darkness and density that seems to be the accelerating downward spiral of contemporary culture.
By consciously choosing what we tune to on a daily basis, and what we support and believe in, we can best attract the divine guidance, grace, peace and protection of the Divine upon ourselves, our families and our communities.
With the seemingly ever increasing assault on truth, goodness and guidance, people of faith of all divinely revealed religions must do our best to live up to the ideals of excellence that our faiths call and guide towards, and do our best to choose truth, humility, obedience, submission and surrender to God Almighty.
Thus and only thus can we experience the freedom, safety and security we are in desperate need of, and only thus can we protect our hearts and the futures of our families.
To your divine and eternal success.

Salaam Ihsan,
In your recent blog, you share the quest for bliss among people of faith. Here is my question that begs to be asked, what belief system, as the price of human degradation seems to be of the self-righteous, reducing the Creator as ba’kheel? What happened to ‘laqum din wal-yadin’? As Muslims, we need to learn to celebrate the diversities as we are told in the Qur’an. The community is devoid of the Spiritual calling. That’s my 2 cents worth.
For all your efforts, JazakaAllah Khairan, InshaAllah
Abdulaziz
