We are typically conditioned to believe that the faiths—and thus the practices based on the source scriptures—of the three Abrahamic and monotheistic religions are inherently different and at odds with one another, yet nothing could be further from the truth.
As one begins study the foundational scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, it becomes unarguably clear that they are all definitively of the same source and have taught the same fundamental religion, i.e. that of surrender and submission to the will of God.
Incredibly, when studying the current gospels of Jesus ﷺ, even in their current forms, it is remarkable to what degree they are consistent with the teachings and practices of Islam. It also becomes inevitably clear that al-Islam continues to maintain and preserve the original religion and way of all of God’s guides and revelations to humanity.
In this short video, I share references from the gospels of the New Testament that describe how Jesus ﷺ himself prayed, and that he clearly as do Muslims, who are but following the guidance of God as revealed through the last and final of His great messengers to humanity, the noble Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
How Jesus Prayed
Jesus ﷺ Prayed in Prostration to God
In the Gospel of Matthew, we see without doubt that the great prophet and messenger of God Jesus ﷺ prayed by prostrating with his forehead to the ground, exactly as the followers of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ do based on the teachings of Islam, the religion which is based but on pure surrender to the will of the Divine.
At that time Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.” Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”
Matthew 26:36-39
Allah Almighty affirms throughout the Qur’an that the religion of God and the prophets and messengers He has sent to humanity are all one, and that they taught the same fundamental truth, i.e. that the religion before God is surrender, or al-Islam, [3:19].
Say, “We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us; and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and his descendants; and what was given to Moses, Jesus, and other prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them. And to Allah we all submit.”
Surah al-Baqarah (Holy Qur’an, 2:136)
May Allah Almighty guide us to that which is best, most blessed and most pleasing to He, and grant us knowledge, wisdom and understanding that draws us closer towards His divine and eternal presence.
Ameen.
To your divine and eternal success
